(a) have a Diploma or Higher Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering from a Hong Kong polytechnic university / polytechnic, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education or a technical institute / technical college, or equivalent;
(b) possess not less than 12 years of relevant experience inclusive of 10 years or more post-qualification experience in building construction projects;
(c) have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent (See Note); and
(d) possess general office computer skills.
Note: (1) ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(2) Candidates with relevant experience in fire services field, including smoke control systems, and having a valid ‘Construction Industry Safety Training Certificate’ will be an advantage.
Duties: (a) To assist Engineer and Principal Technical Officer to check design reports and drawings of fire service installations (FSI) and smoke control systems;
(b) To coordinate all engineering matters associated with the provision of fire safety measures;
(c) To solicit information and data in relation to the engineering aspects of the equipment and systems proposed for use in projects;
(d) To assist in review of fire safety standards in relation to projects of different scales and complexities;
(e) To attend meetings and give advice to other Government departments, architects, E&M consultants, registered FSI contractors on fire service and smoke control engineering details;
(f) To ensure that the detailed design and installation are in compliance with the design principles agreed between external parties and the Department;
(g) To update and maintain submission / drawing records; and
(h) To carry out other duties as assigned by the supervisors.
Terms of Appointment: Selected candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms from the date of appointment until 31 March 2015. The contract may be renewed subject to operational need and satisfactory performance of the post holder. Fringe Benefits (a) An end-of contract gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract period with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. The amount of the gratuity payable will be the sum which, when added to the Government’s contribution to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance (Cap.485), equals to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period; (b) 10 days’ annual leave under a continuous contract of employment for every 12 months. Rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity / paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions under the Employment Ordinance and the contract terms.
