Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 0 ($13,730 per month) to Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 8 ($16,175 per month)
The post is open to both male and female candidates. Candidates should be able to –
(a) communicate in Chinese and simple English;
(b) write simple Chinese or simple English; and
(c) read simple Chinese and simple English.
(a) Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.
(b) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. Candidates who are invited to attend the recruitment interview cum trade test will be tested orally on their BL knowledge during the interview. The results of BL assessment will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.
A Workman II is mainly deployed on –
(a) maintaining general cleanliness and orderliness of the office building, furniture and equipment, and providing pantry services;
(b) performing general laboring work including preparing and moving furniture and equipment for meetings and activities;
(c) performing office security duties;
(d) manning the enquiry counter, distributing forms and information sheets and answering simple enquiries, and taking bookings for the use of community centre/hall facilities;
(e) performing general office support duties such as operating photocopiers and other office machines, as well as collecting and delivering documents, mails, forms, information and publicity materials, stationery items, stores and equipment; and
(f) performing duties during extreme weather conditions, emergency and natural disasters.
(Note: Successful candidates may be required to–
(a) work irregular hours, shifts, or overtime (including on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays) and perform outdoor duties);
(b) be subject to posting to work in any offices (including sub-offices) of the Home Affairs Department; and
(c) be subject to posting to fill vacancies and carry out different duties in the same grade in other Government bureaux / departments when the need arises.)
Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the recruitment interview cum trade test.
(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to further shortlisting. Applications must be made on the form G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013), which are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Applications will be processed according to the information provided on the application form, therefore candidates must fill in the application form duly and clearly.
(b) Completed application forms should reach the Appointments and Personnel Sections, Home Affairs Department, 29th Floor, Southorn Centre, 130 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong by post or in person on or before the closing date and time for applications. Please specify “Application for Workman II” on the envelope. For postal applications, the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application. Please ensure that correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage is affixed before posting so as to avoid unsuccessful delivery of application. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate. Applicants will bear any consequences arising from paying insufficient postage. For submission in person, the completed application form should reach the above address by 5:00 p.m. of the closing date.
(c) Applicants can also apply for the job through the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk) by 5:00 p.m. of the closing date of application.
(d) Copies of the relevant qualifications/work proof/other documents are not required to be submitted at this stage of application. All candidates who are invited for recruitment interview will be required to produce the original and copies of the supporting documents for verification and record purposes.
(e) Candidates who are invited for the recruitment interview will normally receive an invitation around one week before the interview. Those who are not invited for interview within twelve weeks from the closing date for applications may assume that their applications are unsuccessful. The period of notification of the recruitment interview cum trade test may be longer when a large number of applications are received or when there are other complications requiring a longer processing time for the applications.
