Job Number: 36083 Department: Correctional Services Department Job Title: Technical Instructor (Building Services) Salary: General Disciplined Services (Officer) Pay Scale Point 4 (HK$27,885) to General Disciplined Services (Officer) Pay Scale Point 14 (HK$47,805) per month. Entry Requirements: (a) have completed an apprenticeship or institutional training in building services field; and be able to furnish evidence that they have had relevant working experience. Total period of training and working experience should not be less than 10 years. Preference will be given to those candidates who have craft work experience in various types of building services facilities including air-conditioning system, fire and plumbing system, electrical system and mechanical fitting [Note 1 under Entry Requirements]; (b) have attained a level of proficiency in Chinese and English Languages equivalent to Form 3 standard; and be able to speak fluent Cantonese and simple English; and (c) undergo and pass an aptitude test and a trade test in building services [Note 2 under Entry Requirements]. Note: 1. Candidates should specify clearly the requisite relevant experience in the application forms.
2. Where a large number of candidates meet the specified entry requirements, the recruiting department may devise shortlisting criteria to select the better qualified candidates for further processing. In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the first selection process (i.e. the aptitude test/trade test in building services). Only those candidates who have passed the aptitude test, trade test in building services and then selection interview will be considered for appointment.
3. For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Candidates who are invited to attend the recruitment interview will be tested orally on their BL knowledge during recruitment interview. The result of BL assessment will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.
Duties: (a) training, instructing and supervising persons in custody in correctional institutions engaging in vocational training of the related trade; (b) updating training curriculum and records; (c) preparing training materials and exercises; (d) assisting in procurement, installation, commissioning, inventory control and maintenance of training equipment, tools and materials; (e) enforcing the Code of Practice of Occupational Safety & Health and related regulations; and (f) performing any other duties as assigned.
(Note: Subject to the provisions of the Prisons Ordinance and may be required to wear uniform, work shifts and live in departmental quarters.)
Terms of Appointment: A new appointee will be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, the officer may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
