Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 0 (HK$11,055 per month) to Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 8 [Note (1)] (HK$13,035 per month)
Candidates, both male and female, should -
(a) be able to speak fluent Cantonese, read and write simple Chinese; and
(b) be able to speak, read and write simple English. [Note (2)-(3)]

(3) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Candidates who are invited to attend the recruitment interview will be tested orally on their BL knowledge during recruitment interview. The results of BL assessment will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.
A Workman II is mainly deployed on –
(a) manual work in survey gang, sewer gang, sewage treatment facilities and stormwater pumping facilities;
(b) simple office work including operating photocopying machine, binding machine, shredder and sorting and binding documents;
(c) indoor and outdoor collection and delivery of documents, stores and stationery items;
(d) general manual work including cleansing, moving furniture and equipment, loading and unloading documents, stores and supplies items; and
(e) general office support duties including opening and locking exits, manning reception counter, providing pantry service and assisting in setting up meeting venue.
(1) Subject to deployment to take up different types of duties to meet operational needs.
(2) May be required to work in remote areas, on outlying islands, or outdoors; work irregular hours, shifts and/or overtime, or in times of inclement weather.
Terms of Appointment:
A new appointee will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, the officer may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend trade test and/or interview.
(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the trade test and/or interview without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria.
