Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 0 (HK$11,570 per month) to Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 8 (HK$13,640 per month)
(a) communicate in Chinese and simple English; (b) read simple Chinese and simple English; and (c) write simple Chinese or simple English. (Note: Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.)

(2) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.
(a) general manual duties, such as loading / unloading of stores and furniture, watering of grass and shrubs; (b) simple office routines, such as printing / photocopying of documents, locking / unlocking of offices; (c) indoor and outdoor messengerial work; (d) pantry or kitchen duties; (e) cleaning and litter collection and disposal, such as cleaning of waste containers, transport of waste containers from the designated points to refuse collection points, cleaning of toilets, cleaning and sweeping of floors; and (f) issuing canteen items to persons in custody.
(Note: Subject to the provisions of the Prisons Ordinance; required to work in the department's penal institutions and come into contact with persons in custody; may be required to wear uniform, work in remote areas including Lantau Island and Hei Ling Chau, perform irregular, overtime, outdoor and shift duties, and perform duties on Sundays and public holidays. Successful candidates are subject to posting to fill vacancies and carry out different duties in the same grade in other government bureaux/departments when the need arises.)
Terms of Appointment:
A new appointee will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, the officer may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

Only those candidates who have passed the trade test and the subsequent interview will be considered for appointment.
(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the trade test, and the subsequent interview after he/she has passed the trade test, without being subject to further shortlisting.

Application Forms [G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)] are obtainable from any Public Enquiry Service Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Completed application forms should reach the address below on or before the closing date for applications (according to the dates of postmarks for submissions by post). Applications which are incomplete, late, submitted by fax or e-mail, or not made in the prescribed form will not be considered. A relevant trade test will be conducted before the interview.
