Master Pay Scale Point 16 ($26,895 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 33 ($59,485 per month).
Candidates should –
(a) have a degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from a Hong Kong university [Note (1)], or equivalent;
(b) be able to speak English fluently;
(c) be able to speak Cantonese fluently with the correct consonant and vowel sounds; and
(d) have met the language proficiency requirements of "Level 1" results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) [Note (2), (3) and (4)], or equivalent.
(1) Final year students taking their degree examination in summer 2015 may also apply. If selected, consideration of appointment will be subject to their obtaining the requisite qualification.
(2) (a) The results of the Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE) papers in the CRE are classified as "Level 2", "Level 1" or "Fail", with "Level 2" being the highest.
(b) Grade "C" or above and Grade "D" in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) are accepted as equivalent to "Level 2" and "Level 1" results respectively in the UC paper in the CRE.
(c) Grade "C" or above and Grade "D" in Use of English of the HKALE, or equivalent, are accepted as equivalent to "Level 2" and "Level 1" results respectively in the UE paper in the CRE.
(d) Applicants with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the two-year validity period of the test result are considered as having met the English language proficiency requirement of the Speech Therapist post. The IELTS test result must be valid on the starting day of the application period, i.e. 10 April 2015.
(3) Candidates without the requisite CRE results as stated in item (d) of the entry requirements but who have met the other entry requirements by the closing day of the application period (i.e. 23 April 2015) may also apply. However, they will only be considered for appointment subject to their enrolment and obtaining the requisite results in the relevant papers in the CRE to be held on 6 or 13 June 2015.
(4) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment of all civil service jobs. Results of the BL test for degree/ professional grades will be one of the considerations to assess the suitability of a candidate but will not affect his/ her eligibility for applying for civil service jobs. As a general principle, the main consideration for suitability for appointment remains a candidate’s qualification, experience and calibre.
A Speech Therapist is mainly deployed on –
(a) providing assessment, support and therapy to children with speech, language and communication disorders, and coordinating for the rehabilitation of clients;
(b) taking charge of a speech therapy service unit and performing related administrative duties;
(c) assisting in the planning of speech therapy service in the health service setting including the development of assessment tools;
(d) giving talks and lectures on speech therapy, conducting related health promotion and professional education programmes; and
(e) participating in research, health education and other relevant projects.
Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/ she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
