Research Officer (Language Learning Support/Chinese) (EDB/QASBS/055/15)
$20,975 per month
(a) A Hong Kong bachelor's degree or equivalent, major in Chinese Language is an advantage [see Note (i)];
(b) Met the language proficiency requirement of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) [see Note (ii)], or equivalent; and
(c) Preference will be given to candidates who have: (1) 1 year of research and teaching experience [see Note (iii)]; (2) Good IT knowledge (familiar with MS Office, Chinese input method, Web page creation and multimedia tools application); and (3) Good communication skills, team player, self-motivated and pleasant personality.
(i) Candidates should mark clearly on their application forms the major and minor subjects studied in their degree courses. Candidates possessing additional qualifications (e.g. a higher degree in a relevant subject) should include details in their applications.
(ii) For appointment purpose, 'Grade E' in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to 'Level 2' in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(iii) Candidates should state the nature and relevancy of the post-qualification experience.
(a) To assist language support officers to conduct school-based in-depth studies and team based research projects on various language focuses which include reviewing literature, collecting and compiling latest information on language teaching, learning and assessment, video-taping and analyzing lessons, conducting interviews, and preparing reports;
(b) To assist the team head to conduct biannual evaluation with schools on the impact of school-based curriculum development for schools receiving intensive support;
(c) To provide support in conceptualizing and disseminating good practices through the Section's homepage, publications and professional development activities; and
(d) To assist in building up a resource and data bank which facilitates data, information and knowledge management at team and section levels.
Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidates will be employed on non-civil service contract terms for 1 year.
(a) 14 days annual leave, rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance. (b) A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 10% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.
