General Disciplined Services (Rank and File) Pay Scale Point 4 (HK$17,245) to General Disciplined Services (Rank and File) Pay Scale Point 14 (HK$23,875) per month
Applicants should : (a)(i) have Level 2 or equivalent or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE), or equivalent [see General Notes (1)]; or (ii) have Level 2 / Grade E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [see General Notes (2)]; (Note : the subjects in (a) above may include Chinese Language and English Language.) (b) have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent [see General Notes (2)]; (c) be able to speak fluent Cantonese; (d) pass a physical fitness test; and (e) pass an eyesight test.
Selection Process : Eligible applicants will be invited to sit for an Aptitude Test held by the Customs and Excise Department in Hong Kong. Candidates who passed the Aptitude Test may be invited to attend the Physical Fitness Test, and those who passed the Physical Fitness Test may be invited to attend a Selection Interview. Detailed arrangement of the Aptitude Test will be announced in the Customs and Excise Department’s website (http://www.customs.gov.hk/en/about_us/recruitment/index.html).
Basic Law Knowledge Assessment : For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Applicants who are invited to attend the Aptitude Test will be assessed on their BL knowledge through a written test to be held on the same day. The BL test result will be one of the considerations to assess the suitability of a candidate.

A Customs Officer is mainly deployed on law enforcement activities relating to revenue protection and collection, anti-narcotics, anti-smuggling and intellectual property rights protection. A Customs Officer is subject to discipline under the Customs and Excise Service Ordinance and is required to wear uniform, carry firearms, work irregular hours and work in an area outside the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as required.
Terms of Appointment:
New recruits will be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years and may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period.
(1) For civil service appointment purpose, “Attained with Distinction” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade C in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. (2) For civil service appointment purpose, Grade C and Grade E in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to Level 3 and Level 2 respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. (3) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise. Completed forms should reach the Appointments Unit, Personnel Section, Customs and Excise Department, 31/F, Customs Headquarters Building, 222 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong (please mark “Application for the post of Customs Officer” on the envelope) on or before the closing date for application. The postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application. Please ensure that sufficient postage is paid. An applicant will bear any consequences arising from not paying sufficient postage. Applications which are incomplete, late or not duly signed will not be considered.
