HK$47,235 to HK$63,095 per month, depending on the length of relevant post-qualification experience of individual candidates
The position is open to both male and female. Applicants should have –
(a) a first or second class honours bachelor’s degree or a higher degree in arboriculture or a related field such as botany, biology, forestry, horticulture, landscape studies, landscape architecture, landscape management, landscape science, from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent;
(b) a qualification/certification awarded by a professional institution or industry organisation on arboriculture, such as Certified Arborist of the International Society of Arboriculture, Professional Member or Fellow of the Arboricultural Association of the United Kingdom, European Tree Technician of the European Arboricultural Council, Registered Qualified Arborist / Registered Practicing Arborist / Registered Consulting Arborist / Registered Consulting and Practicing Arborist of the Arboriculture Australia, or equivalent;
(c) three years’ post-graduate experience in arboriculture related work; and
(d) proficiency in English and a good command of Chinese and met the language proficiency requirements of ‘Level 2’ result in the Use of English (UE) paper and ‘Level 1’ result in the Use of Chinese (UC) paper in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent (Note 1).
(1) The results of the UC and UE papers in the CRE are classified as Level 2, Level 1 or Fail, with Level 2 being the highest. For non-civil service appointment purpose, Level 5 or above in English Language of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE); or Grade C or above in Use of English of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE); or Grade C or above in English Language of the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) (GCE A Level), are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the UE paper of the CRE. Applicants with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the two-year validity period of the test result are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the UE paper of the CRE. The IELTS test result must be valid on any date during the application period. Level 4 in Chinese Language of the HKDSEE; or Grade D in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the HKALE, are accepted as equivalent to Level 1 in the UC paper of the CRE.
(2) Successful candidates are required to work irregular hours and on public holidays in connection to tree collapse incidents, and have to perform outdoor duties.
The successful candidate will be deployed on performing both office-based and field-based tree management work, including but not limited to planning and managing consultancy studies, providing advice to departments, complaint handling, public education, handling of tree collapse incidents, preparation of guidelines, participation in the Central Tree Support Team of the Tree Management Office in the Works Branch of the Development Bureau (Note 2).
Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidates will be employed on non-civil service contract terms up to 30 June 2016.
A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract period with consistently high standard of performance. The amount of gratuity payable will be the sum which, when added to the Government’s contribution to the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, equals to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period. The benefits in respect of rest days, statutory holidays (or substitute holidays), annual leave, maternity/paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance and confirmed at the time of the offer of appointment.
