Master Pay Scale Point 5 ($14,245) to Master Pay Scale Point 8 ($17,200) per month
Candidates should (a)(i) have completed an approved Craft Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering course or a relevant trade; or (ii) have 3 years’ working experience in a mechanical workshop and experience in handling hydraulic system of machines; and (b) be able to communicate in Chinese and simple English, to read simple Chinese and simple English, and to write simple Chinese or simple English.
(1) Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.
(2) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Candidates who are invited to attend the recruitment interview will be tested orally on their BL knowledge during recruitment interview. The results of BL assessment will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.
Mainly deployed on -
(a) preparing samples and assisting in performing tests for construction materials like concrete, concrete constituents and metal;
(b) carrying out routine cleaning and maintenance of workshop equipment, and cleaning and reinstating testing equipment and tools after use;
(c) fabricating minor ancillary equipment and accessories for use in testing;
(d) handling and storage of samples; and
(e) assisting in general duties for daily operation of the laboratory.
(Artisan (Laboratory) is required to wear uniform and may be required to perform emergency and stand-by duties.)
Terms of Appointment:
A new appointee will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, the officer may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements (including passing the trade test), he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview without being subject to further shortlisting.
