Master Pay Scale Point 5 (HK$14,905 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 8[Note (1)] (HK$17,995 per month)
Candidates, both male and female, should -
(a) have 3 years’ experience in handling incidents of public drain/sewer blockages and clearing the blockages; and
(b) be able to speak Cantonese, read and write simple Chinese; and able to speak, read and write simple English. [Note (2)]

(2) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Candidates who are invited to attend the recruitment interview will be tested orally on their BL knowledge during recruitment interview. The results of BL assessment will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.
A Leading Sewerman is mainly deployed on –
(a) taking instructions from Drain Chargeman and supervising a team of Workmen II to deal with sewage and drainage complaints;
(b) entering into sewers/drains to carry out flow gauging;
(c) inspecting and desilting sewers/drains; and
(d) attending to telephone complaints from the public and referring the complaints to the sewer gangs for remedial work.
(Note: Leading Sewerman may be required to (a) work in remote areas; (b) performing outdoor activities; (c) work irregular hours and/or perform shift duties; (d) carry out duties during typhoons or emergencies; and (e) wear uniform.
Terms of Appointment:
A new appointee will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, the officer may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
