Master Pay Scale Point 5 (HK$14,905 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 8 (HK$17,995 per month)
Candidates should have (a) completed an approved apprenticeship or other approved course of training in welding; (b) 2 years of experience in demolitions, evictions and removal of articles; and (c) attained a level of proficiency in Chinese and English Languages equivalent to Primary 6 standard.
(1) Candidates may be required to pass a trade test.
(2) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.
An Artisan is mainly deployed on (a) squatter control duties including patrols, demolitions, evictions and removal of articles; (b) assisting in supervising Workman during patrols, demolition, evictions and removal of articles; (c) providing guidance/training to new Workman; (d) performing welding and flame cutting work, and ensuring proper keeping/maintenance of demolition tools/equipment as required; (e) assisting District Offices in manning community centres to cater for victims of natural disasters and performing emergency duties as required; and (f) being responsible for proper keeping of the oxy/acetylene cutter and other mechanical equipment.
(Note: Successful candidates may be required to (i) wear uniforms; (ii) perform shift duties and work irregular hours; (iii) work in remote areas; (iv) perform outdoor duties; and (v) receive training.)
Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend recruitment interview/trade test.
(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/trade test without being subject to further shortlisting.
(i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. Application Forms [G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)] are obtainable from any Public Enquiry Service Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Completed application forms should be sent with the envelope clearly marked “Application for the post of Artisan” to the below enquiry address on or before the closing date for application. On-line application can also be made through the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Applications which are incomplete, late or not duly signed will not be accepted. Candidates who are selected for trade test/interview will normally receive an invitation in about 8 to 10 weeks from the closing date for application. Those who do not receive any invitation may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
