Candidates should: (a) be qualified solicitors or barristers in a recognized jurisdiction as stipulated under Section 2A and Schedule 2 of the Legal Officers Ordinance (Cap 87); (b) have at least 2 years' post-qualification experience in land law and conveyancing of landed properties. Experience in legal researches and familiarity with conveyancing practices in Hong Kong are clear advantages; (c) meet the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent. (Note: For non-civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in previous HKCEE are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.); and (d) be fluent in English and Cantonese.
Successful candidates will be appointed to work in the Legal Services Branch of the Land Registry and expected to: (a) conduct legal researches and assist in the review of the Land Titles Ordinance and the preparation of the Land Titles (Amendment) Bill and the subsidiary legislations, practice notes and guidelines; (b) advise on legal matters relating to the Land Registration Ordinance and its subsidiary legislation and applications for registration of incorporated owners of building; and (c) perform other duties as may be assigned by senior officers.
Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for 12 months.
A gratuity will be granted if the contract is satisfactorily completed with a consistently high standard of performance and conduct. The gratuity, plus any contribution by the Government towards a mandatory provident fund as required by the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance, will equal 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period. Rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance. An annual leave of 12 days per year of service will be offered.

(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.
