Candidate should have (a) Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers in relevant Civil or Environmental Discipline admitted on or after 5 December 1975, or equivalent; (b) at least five years’ full time relevant post-qualifications working experience in supervision of construction of civil engineering works or waste management facility projects at an appropriate level of responsibility; and (c) met the language proficiency requirement of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent (Note: ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth)
(a) Candidates should clearly specify the discipline of their corporate membership in the applications and attach a curriculum vitae which should include details of their previous working experience to the applications. (b) Holders of academic/professional qualifications obtained from institutions or professional bodies outside Hong Kong should attach copies of their official transcripts and certificates to their applications.
The successful candidate may be deployed to waste facilities or construction sites to act as site representative of the Environmental Protection Department. The duties will include: (a) managing waste facilities/projects; (b) vetting design submissions from contractors; (c) monitoring progress and quality of construction works; (d) monitoring the environmental performance of contractors; (e) providing technical inputs on environmental, engineering, and financial assessments; and (f) assisting in communication with the public (including the trade) and liaison with other government departments in connection with development and operation of waste and related facilities.
(Note: The hours and venues of work may be varied having regarded to the operational needs of the department. The successful candidate may be required to (a) work irregular hours and overtime, including evenings and weekends; and (b) work occasionally outdoors.)
Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for one year.
14 days paid annual leave will be granted to the successful candidate. The eligibility for rest days, statutory holidays (or substitute holidays), maternity / paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, is in line with those provided for under the Employment Ordinance. A gratuity may be granted at the end of the contract period if the contract is satisfactorily completed with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary received during the contract period.

(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.
