Master Pay Scale Point 8 (HK$17,200 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 21 (HK$34,305 per month). Increments(s) may be granted for previous relevant experience in excess of the stipulated minimum as specified below [Notes (1) and (2)].
Candidates should have –
(a) a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science from an institute recognised by the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board of Hong Kong, or equivalent;
(b) registered in Hong Kong as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Part II of the Register of Medical Laboratory Technologists under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance (Cap. 359);
(c) a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board of Hong Kong; and
(d) met the language proficiency requirements of "Level 2" or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [Note (3)].
(1) Subject to the prevailing situation, candidates may be considered for the granting of increments for relevant experience. Relevant experience refers to full-time working experience in the medical laboratory service after registration in Hong Kong as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Part II of the Register of Medical Laboratory Technologists under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance (Cap. 359).
(2) Applications from serving civil service Medical Laboratory Technician II in the Department of Health would not normally be considered.
(3) For civil service appointment purpose, "Grade C" and "Grade E" in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to "Level 3" and "Level 2" respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(4) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Candidates who are invited to attend the recruitment interview will be assessed on their BL knowledge through a written test to be conducted before or after the recruitment interview. The BL test result will be one of the considerations to assess the suitability of a candidate but will not affect his/ her eligibility for applying for civil service jobs. As a general principle, the main consideration for suitability for appointment remains a candidate's qualifications, experience and calibre.
A Medical Laboratory Technician II is mainly deployed on performing general and specialised laboratory tests, quality control, preparation of reagents and media, and assisting in evaluation of testing methodologies and equipment, surveillance of infectious diseases of public health significance and research.

Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/ she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
