Master Pay Scale Point 8 ($17,995 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 26 ($45,130 per month)
Candidates should have -
(a)(i) Level 3 or equivalent (Note 1) or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (“HKDSEE”) (Note 2), or equivalent; or
(ii) Grade E or above in two subjects at Advanced Level in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination and Level 3 (Note 3) / Grade C or above in three other subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (“HKCEE”) (Note 2), or equivalent; and
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 3 (Note 3) or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent.
(1) For civil service appointment purpose, “Attained with distinction” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade C in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
(2) The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.
(3) For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(4) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (“BL”) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate’s overall assessment.
A Judicial Clerk is mainly deployed on –
(a) serving as Clerk to a Judge / Registrar of the Court of Final Appeal, a Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of the High Court, a Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court, a Judge of the District Court or a Master; attending and assisting in court or chambers hearings as appropriate (including arraignment of the accused, empanelling jury and taking verdict); maintaining accurate records; checking and marking exhibits and arranging for their custody; settling and approving draft orders drawn up by legal practitioners;
(b) assisting the First Clerk in magistrates’ courts; and
(c) serving as Judicial Clerk in Lands Tribunal, Small Claims Tribunal, Clerk of Court’s Office, High Court Registry, Probate Registry, District Court Registry and Family Court Registry.
Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
(1) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(7) Where a large number of candidates meet the specified entry requirements, the Judiciary may devise shortlisting criteria to select the better qualified candidates for further processing. In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the selection interview.
(8) It is Government policy to place people with disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview without being subject to further shortlisting.
(9) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the below enquiry address.
(10) Towards the application deadline, the online system would likely be overloaded due to large volume of applications. To ensure timely completion of online application, it is advisable to submit the application as early as possible.

Application Forms [G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)] are obtainable from any Public Enquiry Service Centres of District Offices of the Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk).
Candidates must state in detail the duties involved in their employment in the application form and attach the experience resume. Completed application forms, together with the experience resume and copies of certificates and transcripts in the case of non-local academic qualifications, should reach the Corporate Services Division of the Judiciary, Room LG 212, LG2/F, High Court Building, 38 Queensway, Hong Kong by post or by hand not later than the closing date for application. Please specify “Application for the post of Judicial Clerk” on the envelope.
Online applications can also be made through the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Candidates who apply online should submit copies of their supporting documents by post or by hand to the below specified address within one week after the close of application period, and the online application number should be quoted on the envelope and the copies of all supporting documents.
Applications which are submitted by fax or by email, incomplete, late, not duly signed, without copies of the required supporting documents or not made in the prescribed form will not be considered. Candidates who are selected for the selection interview will normally receive the invitation (by email or by post) in about eight to ten weeks from the closing date for application. This period may be longer in exceptional circumstances, e.g. when a large number of applications are received or when there are other complications. Candidates who are not invited for the selection interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
