(a) (i) possess Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (Geotechnical or Civil Discipline) elected after 5 December 1975, or equivalent [see Note (1)]; or (ii) process a recognized professional qualification in engineering geology or geology, or equivalent, such as Chartered Geologist status of the Geological Society of London, UK; (b) have at least 7 years’ post-qualification experience in the field of cavern and/or underground space development; and (c) attain Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [see Note (2)].
(1) Candidates holding non-local professional qualifications in geotechnical or civil engineering only should prove the equivalent of such qualifications by the closing date for application, with supporting documents such as evidence of acceptance of their qualifications by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers for admission to its Corporate Membership (Geotechnical or Civil Discipline). (2) ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth. (3) Candidate should attach a detailed account of their working experience including the jobs/projects and duties involved in a prescribed format to their applications. Successful candidates will be mainly deployed to carry out the following duties in the Civil Engineering and Development Department: (1) To provide expert advice on the planning and management of the consultancy agreements for cavern and underground space development; (2) To review, comment and analyse technical reports and study findings submitted by consultants on cavern and underground space development; (3) To provide expert advice on development measures and implementation strategies to facilitate cavern and underground space development in Hong Kong. (4) To provide expert advice on developing or updating technical standards for cavern and underground space development; (5) To liaise with project offices, consultants and stakeholders on matters relating to cavern and underground space development; (6) To provide expert advice on planning and conducting consultation with relevant stakeholders and public engagement/consultation exercise; (7) To provide expert advice and information to relevant Government bureau/departments, key stakeholders and the general public, as required, on cavern and underground space development projects and related issues; and (8) To provide training to other staff.
Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidates will be appointed on one year non-civil service contract terms.
An end-of-contract gratuity equivalent to 15% of the total basic salary may be granted if the contract is satisfactorily completed. Such gratuity will include the contribution made by the Government towards a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Scheme Ordinance. Rest days, statutory holidays, annual leave, maternity/paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions in the Employment Ordinance and the contract terms.

(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. Completed forms, together with the required documents mentioned in Note (3) should be forward to the enquiry address of the recruiting department on or before the closing date for application, with the envelope clearly marked with “For Application of Contract Cavern Specialist”.
