Master Pay Scale Point 9 ($18,310 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 22 ($35,930 per month)
Candidates should have -
(a) obtained a Diploma or Higher Certificate in Quantity Surveying, Building Studies or Civil Engineering from a Hong Kong polytechnic university / polytechnic, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education or a technical institute / technical college, or equivalent; and
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) [Note(1)], or equivalent.
(1) For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to 'Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(2) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Candidates who are invited to attend the recruitment interview will be assessed on their BL knowledge through a written test to be conducted before or after the recruitment interview. The BL test result will be one of the considerations to assess the suitability of a candidate but will not affect his/her eligibility for applying for civil service jobs. As a general principle, the main consideration for suitability for appointment remains a candidate's qualification, experience and calibre.
A Survey Officer (Quantity Discipline) (Engineering Field) is mainly deployed on-
(a) taking off quantities, preparing bills of quantities and tender documents for all types of engineering projects;
(b) preparing uncomplicated 'star' rates;
(c) preparing and checking of measurements, interim payments and final accounts on engineering works;
(d) providing in-service training to junior staff; and
(e) processing data by applying quantity surveying computer software.
(Note: Selected candidates may be posted to other government departments; and may be required to work shifts or irregular hours, perform outdoor duties, and perform emergency and on-call duties during typhoon, severe weather conditions and other emergency events.)
Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend recruitment examination and/or interview.
(h) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to further shortlisting.
(i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk).
Completed form, together with a copy of documentary evidence of academic qualifications and technical qualifications (including official transcript), should reach the enquiry address below on or before the closing date for application (the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application). Please mark on envelope the title of the job applied for.
Online application can also be made through the Civil Service Bureau's website. Applicants who apply online should submit the required documents to the enquiry address below or by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) on or before the closing date for application. Please quote the job title and the online application number on the envelope or in the email. Applications which are incomplete, late or submitted by fax or email, or not made in the prescribed form will not be considered.

Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation (by email if email addresses are available) in about eight weeks from the closing date for application.
