Master Pay Scale Point 9 ($19,160) to Master Pay Scale Point 12 ($22,900) per month.
(a) have a Certificate in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering from a Hong Kong Polytechnic/Polytechnic University or Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education/technical college/technical institute, or equivalent; or have completed a recognized Technician Apprenticeship in mechanical/electrical engineering field; or have had at least 5 years' experience as a skilled worker in mechanical/electrical engineering field [Note 1 under Entry Requirements]; (b) have attained a level of proficiency in Chinese and English Languages equivalent to Form 3 standard; and (c) undergo and pass an aptitude test and a trade test [Note 2 under Entry Requirements].
1. Candidates should specify clearly the requisite relevant experience in the application forms.
2. Where a large number of candidates meet the specified entry requirements, the recruiting department may devise shortlisting criteria to select the better qualified candidates for further processing. In these circumstances, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the first selection process i.e. the aptitude test/ trade test. Only those candidates who have passed the aptitude test, trade test and then selection interview will be considered for appointment.
3. For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.
(a) maintaining and repairing workshop machinery, laundry equipment and boilers in correctional institutions; (b) liaising, co-ordinating and supervising the installation, maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment carried out by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department personnel and service contractors; (c) performing craft work; requisitioning and controlling tools and machine parts; and planning programmes for maintenance work; and (d) performing any other duties as assigned.
(Note: Subject to the provisions of the Prisons Ordinance; required to wear uniform; and may be required to work shifts and live in departmental quarters.)
Terms of Appointment:
A new appointee will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, the officer may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
(a) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/ Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.
