Curriculum Officer (Chinese Language Education) (EDB/CDI/240/14)
$57,275 per month
(a) A Hong Kong bachelor's degree in Chinese Language Subject or equivalent; and a certificate in education from a Hong Kong tertiary educational institution, or equivalent [see Note (ii)]; (b) 'Level 2' results in the two language papers [Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE)] in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent [see Note (iii)]; (c) at least 6 years' relevant post-qualification experience in teaching or curriculum development in the subjects of Chinese Language / Chinese Literature / Putonghua [see Note (iv)]; (d) good communication, thinking and inter-personal skills; (e) Preference will be given to candidates who possess a higher degree related to Chinese Language curriculum studies, or equivalent, or good command of Putonghua and / or experience in Putonghua education and / or using Putonghua to teach Chinese; and (f) Candidates short-listed for interview are required to take a test on Putonghua knowledge and skills.
(i) The application period for the post of Curriculum Officer (Chinese Language Education) is from 28 November 2014 (Friday) to 12 December 2014 (Friday). (ii) Candidates should mark clearly on their application forms the major and minor subjects studied in their degree courses. Candidates possessing additional qualifications (e.g. a second/higher degree in a relevant subject) should include details in their applications. (iii) Candidates' results in the Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE) papers of CRE are classified as 'Level 2', 'Level 1' or 'Fail', with 'Level 2' being the highest. Grade 'C' or above in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) is accepted as equivalent to 'Level 2' in the UC paper of the CRE. Grade 'C' or above in Use of English of the HKALE, or English Language of the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level), is accepted as equivalent to 'Level 2' in the UE paper of the CRE. Applicants with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the two-year validity period of the test are considered as having met the English language proficiency requirement of the Curriculum Officer (Chinese Language Education) post. The IELTS test result must be valid on the starting day of the application period, i.e. 28 November 2014. [See Note (i) above] (iv) Candidates should state the nature and relevancy of the post-qualification experience. (v) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of the BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all Curriculum Officer jobs in Education Bureau. Test Result (Degree/ Professional Grades) will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate's overall assessment. However, it will not affect his/her eligibility for applying for Curriculum Officer jobs in Education Bureau. As a general principle, the main consideration for suitability for appointment remains a candidate's qualifications, experience and calibre. (vi) Candidates should be responsible, self-motivated and enthusiastic; have a fine character and integrity; be committed to serve in the education field; and be able to communicate effectively in Chinese and English.
(a) To take part in the development of the curriculum for the key learning area of Chinese Language Education according to the direction set by the Curriculum Development Council; (b) to organize teacher professional development programmes on learning / teaching approaches and strategies of Chinese Language Education curriculum and related cross-curricular areas; (c) to collect, compile and produce resources materials in support of the implementation of the Chinese Language Education curriculum and related cross-curricular areas; (d) to facilitate and participate in research, evaluation and development projects in relation to the Chinese Language Education curriculum; (e) to review textbooks and learning and teaching resource materials; (f) to provide secretariat services and professional support to relevant committees and task groups within and / or outside the Educational Bureau; (g) to collaborate with schools and other educational institutions; and (h) to assist in administration and professional duties.
Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidates will be employes on non-civil service contract terms for 2.5 years.
(a) 18 days annual leave and full pay sickness allowance whereas rest days, statutory holidays(or substituted holidays), maternity leave, where appropriate, will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance. (b) A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period. (c) Other fringe benefits include medical and dental benefits and, where appropriate, housing benefits.
