Interpreter [Indonesian]; or Interpreter [Urdu & Punjabi (Pakistani)]; or Interpreter [Hindi & Punjabi (Indian)]; or Interpreter [Bengali]; or Interpreter [Vietnamese]
Candidates should have : (a) a Hong Kong's bachelor's degree or equivalent (preferably major in Translation – English and that specific language group; (b) training or experience in translation and interpretation in that specific language group; (c) excellent writing skills in English and that specific language group; (d) fluent speaking skills in English and that specific language group; (e) skills in conveying the meaning of a text in that specific language in a clear, grammatically correct and stylistically appropriate manner; and (f) preferably registered with the Judiciary of the HKSAR Government as Registered Part-time Interpreters for that specific language group.
Selected appointees will be responsible for : (a) handling translation from that specific language group into English, and vice versa, for different types of documents; (b) providing simultaneous interpretation services at interviews, meetings, upon serving of notices and completion of forms, etc.; (c) providing other literacy services, e.g. copywriting, editing; (d) performing any other interpretation/translation duties assigned by senior officers; and (e) when necessary, performing interpretation and translation work as mentioned in (a) to (d) of this paragraph at locations outside Hong Kong.
Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for one year. Renewal of contract is subject to service needs, satisfactory performance and conduct during the employment period.
An end-of-contract gratuity may be granted if the contract is satisfactorily completed with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus the contribution made by the HKSAR Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will equal to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period. Rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), annual leave, maternity leave, paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance.

If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the recruitment test and /or interview without being subject to any further shortlisting criteria. (g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the mailing address as indicated.

Application Forms [G.F.340 (Rev.3/2013)] are obtainable from any Public Enquiry Service Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department, or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau's web site (http://www.csb.gov.hk). Completed application forms should be accompanied with a full curriculum vitae specifying the language proficiency in both speech and writing of every language under that specific language group, the relevant academic/professional qualifications attained, the job titles held in the respective companies, and the detailed job descriptions of all current and previous employment. Applicants holding academic and/or professional qualifications obtained from institutions or professional bodies outside Hong Kong should attach photocopies of the diplomas/certificates, transcripts of studies and official documents. Applications should be sent by post to the address specified below on or before the closing date (the postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of submission of application. Please ensure that sufficient postage is paid. An applicant will bear any consequences arising from not paying sufficient postage). Those late applications or incomplete applications or applications without the relevant supporting documents will not be considered. Please quote the post title with that specific language group applied for and mark, “Application – Restricted” on the cover. Applicants who are not invited for test/interview within 10 weeks from the closing date may presume their applications unsuccessful.
