Candidates should have –
(a) a first or second class honours bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related subject from a university of Hong Kong, or equivalent [Notes 1 and 2];
(b) a Master degree or above in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related subject from a university of Hong Kong, or equivalent [Notes 1 and 2];
(c) at least four years’ relevant full-time experience in laboratory operation [Note 3];
(d) excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical and organisation skills; and
(e) proficiency in written Chinese and English, and good command of spoken Cantonese, Putonghua and English.

A DNA Analyst is mainly deployed -
(a) to assist in setting up and designing the DNA Laboratory under a testing centre for Chinese medicines;
(b) to assist in monitoring the renovation and fitting out of the DNA Laboratory;
(c) to assist in drafting tender specifications for procurement of various instruments for the DNA Laboratory;
(d) to assist in evaluating tendering documents and offers submitted by suppliers;
(e) to perform acceptance and functional tests on newly acquired instruments;
(f) to carry out pilot studies on DNA fingerprinting or barcoding of Chinese Materia Medica (“CMM”);
(g) to perform pilot studies on establishing the traceability of CMM and authenticating CMM;
(h) to prepare scientific reports and papers; and
(i) to carry out any other duties as assigned by senior officers.

Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for 12 months. Renewal of contract will be subject to the service need of the Department and the performance of the candidate.
Candidates appointed are eligible for 14 days’ paid annual leave. Other benefits such as rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), annual leave, maternity/ paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the Employment Ordinance (Cap.57).

(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/ Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the enquiry address indicated.
(h) The period of notification of recruitment examination and/ or interview may be longer when a large number of applications are received or when there are other complications requiring a longer processing time for the applications.
